The Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK)<\/strong>, in collaboration with the Centre for Digital Built Croatia (CDI)<\/strong>, has introduced the Guidelines for the Digitalization and Modernization of Construction Processes<\/strong>, a document providing systematic recommendations for the digital transformation of the construction sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The guidelines are intended for all stakeholders in construction \u2013 from small and medium-sized enterprises to the largest contractors<\/strong> \u2013 with the aim of accelerating the transition toward a more efficient, safer, and more transparent construction environment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mirjana \u010cagalj<\/strong>, Vice President of HGK for Construction and Transport, emphasized that this document is important for improving the construction sector as it lays the foundation for standardized, more efficient, and transparent processes on construction sites<\/strong>. It encourages the use of digital tools and technologies<\/strong>, which contributes to greater safety, better cost control, faster project delivery, and enhanced competitiveness of Croatian construction companies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A similar view is shared by Monika Mlaki\u0107<\/strong>, President of CDI, who points out that digital adaptation of construction sites is not a choice but a necessity<\/strong> if we want a competitive and sustainable construction sector<\/strong>. According to her, these guidelines represent the first step toward creating a common language and set of tools<\/strong> that will enable Croatia to keep pace with European standards<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The guidelines are based on insights from European and national research, experiences of domestic companies, and the legislative and strategic frameworks of the Republic of Croatia<\/strong>. Rather than introducing sudden and burdensome changes, the focus is on gradual and realistic integration of digital tools into everyday processes<\/strong>, with clear recommendations for employee training, system interoperability, and the development of a national construction digitalization strategy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regulatory framework<\/strong> is also of particular importance: starting in 2030<\/strong>, the use of BIM methodology in public projects<\/strong> will become mandatory in Croatia. This creates an opportunity for accelerated industry adaptation<\/strong>, while simultaneously imposing the need for clear standards, a national protocol, and continuous education for all stakeholders<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The guidelines also provide examples of digital technology applications on construction sites<\/strong>, including IoT sensors, drones, 3D scanning, artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, and digital twins<\/strong>. By presenting the possibilities of each technology, the document offers basic recommendations and tools<\/strong> that can enhance productivity and efficiency on construction sites in Croatia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
